Pro D2 Semi Final playoff round up

Grenoble eased to the Pro D2 title, winning the top spot by 18 points, the semi finals were played over the weekend to see who would be joining them in the Top 14 next season.

Both the teams that went through were as expected in French rugby, the ones who had gained home advantage by finishing second and third in the league, beating the fourth and fifth in the league.

Sergio Valdes
Pau 16-14 La Rochelle
Pau finished second in the league and defeated La Rochelle narrowly. La Rochelle had Argentine hooker Franco Pani on the bench, and this match marks the end of an era for them, with a lot of the group of players who won them promotion and played in the Top 14 now leaving.

Pau had Chilean lock Sergio Valdes starting for them and he played 80 minutes, another whilst Argentine hooker playing in the match Andrés Bordoy came off the bench. If Pau win the final against Mont-de-Marsan it would mean there would be two Chilean locks in the Top 14 as Pablo Huete has moved from Castres to join them.

Leandro Cédaro
Mont-de-Marsan 24-20 Dax
Mont-de-Marsan were 21-3 up after 47 minutes and survived a late Dax comeback to reach the final of the Pro D2 playoffs.

The yellow and black kitted side had Argentine lock Leandro Cédaro starting for them, whilst Canadian Josh Jackson who continues to be overlooked for Canadian selection came off the bench. Cédaro has moved to La Rochelle for next season, a move he may regret if Mont-de-Marsan go up.
